NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Driver Index

The NT5 index followed beta NVIDIA display drivers for Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It became a dense chronology of Detonator and later driver builds, many of which were linked by European hardware sites using version-first labels.
How to read the version trail
Each record paired a numeric build with a platform and, where available, a date, language, size, supported-card range, and short note. Inbound labels often called a version “unofficial” or “leaked.” Those words describe the status attached to the release at the time; they do not establish authorship, safety, or present-day suitability.
The index also shows a naming transition. Early 20-series packages were usually discussed as Detonators. By the 50-series, “Detonator” still appeared in 3DChipset copy even as the GeForce FX generation changed the surrounding product language. Later paths continued into 60-, 70-, and 80-series builds.
Versions visible in the record
Additional later paths named 70.90, 71.20, 71.24, 71.50, 73.00, 75.90, 76.10, 76.41, 76.44, 77.13, 77.40, 77.50, 77.62, 80.40, 81.26, 81.89, and 83.90. This list is a map of pages and inbound version labels, not a claim that every build was tested, complete, or approved by a vendor.
Two records with fuller context
Version 27.10 retains a release date, size, feature notes, and a long supported-card list. It belongs to the GeForce3-to-GeForce4 transition and still includes TNT, Vanta, GeForce 256, and Quadro families under one package.
Version 51.75 records an English beta package dated September 2003. Its page became notable because contemporary reporting connected the build with benchmark-preview debate before Half-Life 2. The modern record states that context without repeating allegations as fact.
Why so many versions accumulated
Graphics drivers changed quickly because the hardware, APIs, games, and operating systems were all moving. Enthusiasts watched for compatibility fixes and new controls, but also compared image quality and performance. A beta could appear between official releases, board makers could post their own packages, and geographically distant sites could mirror the same version under slightly different descriptions.

Why NT5 records were separate
Windows 2000 and Windows XP shared the NT lineage but arrived in a market still supporting Windows 9x, Windows Me, and Windows NT 4. Enthusiast sites therefore organized releases by operating-system branch as well as vendor. A version number seen in one branch did not automatically describe the same package, behavior, or support list in another.
The index also shows why “beta” needs historical context. It described release status at a moment in time, not a permanent judgment about every later driver with a nearby number. Testers watched for game fixes, control-panel changes, performance shifts, missing features, and certification status. Reports could be revised as readers compared results across cards.
Boundaries of this index
Entries here identify versions and the hardware families named in period records. They are not compatibility promises for a particular board, and they do not authenticate any file found elsewhere. Modern operating systems, security expectations, and driver-signing practices are substantially different. The index is therefore deliberately read-only and document-centered.
Two detailed examples—the 27.10 and 51.75 records—show how the index linked a broad operating-system branch to individual dated entries. They are presented as evidence of publishing practice, not as a software catalogue.
